Circulation Policy PDF Print E-mail
EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2007

The materials in the Education Resource Center are available to University of Delaware faculty, staff and students and the general public. In order to obtain a patron number, individuals must present a valid form of identification and complete a patron registration form with current contact information. Patrons are wholly responsible for all items borrowed on his/her account and liable for all fines and charges to the account. In order to insure fair distribution of materials to all patrons, items must be returned and reshelved after the maximum renewal before the original user can borrow them again.

General Collection

The general collection of the ERC includes children’s books, videos, and software; curriculum materials and professional development items (not including periodicals). These items may be borrowed for 12 days, not including Sundays, holidays and other ERC closures, with a maximum of 2 renewals. There are no fines unless the items are lost, stolen, damaged or not returned. In the event that the items are lost, stolen, damaged or not returned, the patron will be assessed the replacement cost of the item.

Holds

Items placed on HOLD by patrons will be checked out to the patron once it becomes available and held for the loan period. Patrons will be notified either by phone or email when the item is available. At the end of the loan period, the item will be returned to circulation. If it has been requested by another patron, it may not be renewed but must be returned promptly. Due dates may be adjusted if an item is on hold for a future date that falls within the loan period.

Fines and other charges

Fines are charged to encourage the prompt return of materials and insure their fair distribution to all. Fines are computed from the day the material is due until the day it is returned. Fines for lost or damaged materials will be based on the replacement cost of the item. Overdue items will be considered lost after 30 days at which time the patron will be assessed the replacement cost of the item. Fines may be paid by check made payable to the University of Delaware or in cash.
